My journey as an author
Cliché as it sounds, I've always had a passion for telling stories. It's part of why I became an actor (that and my lifelong ambition to be the Red Power Ranger).
In 2019, I had the idea for what would eventually become OVEREMOTIONAL. It wouldn't be until autumn 2020 that I'd finish it (who knew the apocalypse could be such a creative block). After some editing and reworking, I got my wonderful agent, Lina at the North Literary Agency, and we found a home for the trilogy at Bonnier Books.
The books have gone on to be Sunday Times Children's Book of the Week, Bookzilla's Book of the Month and were translated into Polish!

The OVEREMOTIONAL Trilogy
Think Misfits meets Heartstopper with elements of Stranger Things and a dash of X-Men.
The OVEREMOTIONAL Trilogy (yes, the titles are all capitalised) is a Queer, YA Urban Fantasy set in the UK. It follows Steven Percival, a closeted 17-year-old with the worst powers imaginable for a teenager – they're linked to his emotions! But they seem to be the wrong way around. Whenever he feels disgust, he pulls things towards him. Anger makes others afraid. And happiness ... wreaks ruin.
His first kiss with another boy should be something to celebrate ... instead, Steven's powers make the other boy's head explode. Literally. He runs away from home, determined to keep everyone safe from his powers, but hot on his heels are friends and agents from the mysterious DEMA organisation.
The books are filled with humour, friendships, slow and fast burn romances, and are quintessentially British. They don't shy away from darker themes, either, so be sure to check out the Author's Note at the start to check they're suitable. (I've opted for them over trigger warnings so I can contextualise potentially triggering content).
